WATCH: Fox News Sounds The Dog Whistle One More Time

This is not the way Obama talks. At least it is not the way he talked in the scores of speeches I’ve watched him give, the public appearances I’ve seen him make. This is a put on. This is phony.

– Tucker Carlson

Because we all know that when it comes to critiquing blackness, Tucker Carlson is your go-to guy.

And really, that’s what this amounts to: Carlson’s (and the Drudge Report, who breathlessly promoted his take as the “October Surprise”) basic premise is, because Barack Obama code-switched to a black audience during a 2007 speech at Hampton University, that this is “a put on” and “a dog siren.” And of course Sean Hannity is right behind him.

But as Media Matters points out, Hannity and Carlson put on a show of selective ignorance: Obama’s speech actually criticized the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina:

Now here’s the thing, when 9/11 happened in New York City, they waived the Stafford Act — said, ‘This is too serious a problem. We can’t expect New York City to rebuild on its own. Forget that dollar you got to put in. Well, here’s 10 dollars.’ And that was the right thing to do. When Hurricane Andrew struck in Florida, people said, ‘Look at this devastation. We don’t expect you to come up with y’own money, here. Here’s the money to rebuild. We’re not going to wait for you to scratch it together — because you’re part of the American family.’ … What’s happening down in New Orleans? Where’s your dollar? Where’s your Stafford Act money? Makes no sense. Tells me that somehow, the people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much.

Hannity, not to be outdone, attempts to raise the “spectre” of Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

Sean Hannity, Man of God. Yup. To borrow another conservative’s old joke, if Hannity found Christ, I guess Jesus didn’t see him coming.

Scandalous stuff, right? I tell you, the Republicans are lucky their guys don’t code-switch.

There’s a DVD being mailed to voters in swing states that alleges Obama’s mother was a porn star and that his father was a black American communist with some dude doing a bad impression of him narrating it. Wow some people will do anything to win.

Okay, so this has been the Republican strategy. First, Obama is a big scary black man who hates white people, then he’s a big scary Kenyan Muslim who wants to destroy America, then he’s not even black he’s mixed race and how dare his disrespect his mother like that, and then he’s not black in any way shape or form because his ancestors weren’t enslaved in the Americas and now he’s a big scary black man again, only this time he’s a fake big scary black man. I guess it’s nice to see them playing remixes of old favorites.
