Ohio State Faces The Haters Within

Shortly after my comments I was contacted by the university that a hold had been put on my account and that I needed to meet with them immediately. Becoming a nervous wreck as to what could have happened, I scheduled a same-day appointment and met with some of the faculty in the Office of Student Affairs. During that meeting I discovered the stigma that had been attached to my name and the consequences that could come of it. I was informed that I could be kicked out of Ohio State permanently with an official note being put on any other school I applied to about my comments. This would have been an irrecoverable loss that would haunt me for the rest of my life if I didn’t take quick action. I found out my comments were not private, not secure, not a just way to vent, and not okay.

Meanwhile, OSU Haters has called the ensuing discussions “amazing,” and continues to encourage students to engage in them:

Don’t succumb to hate or harassment – that defeats the purpose. In the end, hate cannot solve hate. As adults, especially mature college students, let’s avoid confrontation and accusations. Instead of stooping down to that level, let’s bring everyone else up. Let our ultimate goal be of inclusion and learning, through intellectual discussions.

    So the Hater only decided to change because it could cause them problems. Sounds about right for racists.

    Likely the fear that their hateful speech will affect future hiring and being kicked out of OSU is what scared this student not a true sense of ‘wrong’ but surprise that anyone cared about them posting ONLINE what they likely say out loud to friends or targeted ‘others’.

    As an OSU Alum, I’m grateful to see action taken not only by students but by the administration as well. Being the largest university in the country is always going to have problems… but hopefully people can work together to make the campus a little more compassionate and understanding than it was before.

    It is good to see this taken seriously, but actually OSU is not the largest public university in the country…it’s Arizona State, by a pretty large margin.

    Oh, the glorious Midwest. Glad I left you 12 years ago for the much more diverse and tolerant West Coast. i won’t ever miss you because of people like these. Too bad you’ll never appreciate food outside of burgers and hot dogs.

    And what would REALLY scare them is if they apply for a position and the person doing the hiring is a POC who decided to do a little reasearch on them and this stuff pops up.
