The Racialicious Guide To San Diego Comic-Con 2012, Part 2
This Comics Arts Conference Session will discuss “the creation of comic book characters and identity in mainstream, independent and digital comics as well as fine arts settings” including why diversity matters–a message comic companies seem all too willing to discard. Room 26AB.
1 p.m.: Manga Tutorials for Kids
Artists and editors from eigoMANGA will be on hand to offer youngsters tips on putting together their own manga stories. Room 11AB.
2:30 p.m.: The Culture of Comic-Con
With this convention becoming either more eclectic or more unhinged, depending on who you ask, there couldn’t be a better time for a discussion of an ethnographic field study of “the intersection of fan practice at the nexus of cultural marketing and fan culture.” Room 26AB.
9 p.m.: The Slants concert
The band holds its own after-party after the convention doors close, featuring 321 Stereo, Johnny Hi-Fi and DJ Miss Dust. 762 5th Avenue.
