Jay Smooth Breaks Down Corey Booker’s Young (Old) Money Clique

About This Blog

Racialicious is a blog about the intersection of race and pop culture. Check out our daily updates on the latest celebrity gaffes, our no-holds-barred critique of questionable media representations, and of course, the inevitable Keanu Reeves John Cho newsflashes.

Latoya Peterson (DC) is the Owner and Editor (not the Founder!) of Racialicious, Arturo García (San Diego) is the Managing Editor, Andrea Plaid (NYC) is the Associate Editor. You can email us at team@racialicious.com.

The founders of Racialicious are Carmen Sognonvi and Jen Chau. They are no longer with the blog. Carmen now runs Urban Martial Arts with her husband and blogs about local business. Jen can still be found at Swirl or on her personal blog. Please do not send them emails here, they are no longer affiliated with this blog.

Thank you so much for putting up this link.
      Well…the link doesn’t actually work.

However, I had no idea that Blackagendareport existed…now I do, which is awesome!

There is one fundamental problem with his point:  Booker is not trying to find a balance between the party, the people and his bankroll.

Like any employee, your allegiance lies with the person who PAYS you.  There is no split between Obama and the private equity/financial sector/WS interests.  So Jay Booker doesn’t have any either.  Now Obama is trying to get poor people to vote for him, so he gins up this false populism.  However, he is so beholden to those interests that it’s useful to have a guy like Booker go out and assure those interests that the Democrats are still on the team.

Rewind:  In the election, Obama said he would revise “disastrous” NAFTA in public, but in secret he sent representatives up to Canada to tell them that this was just political rhetoric (reported even on Canadian news).  4 years later, Panama, Korea and Columbia have been ADDED to new free trade agreements.

So let’s not pretend any of this means anything.
Does anyone seriously believe any political party will DO anything about these issues?
There is no split between the Money and the Party.   There is the Money Party and there is the People.
    That’s it.
When people can accept that politicians work for the people who pay them, then perhaps we can all collectively stop fawning over handsome men in suits who *don’t care about you*.  Obama would happily see you beaten by police and then thrown in prison forever (NDAA) and then go home and kiss his daughters if you started encouraging people to study, get educated, get involved and oppose the unjust foreign policies.  If your kids were in a hospital in Lybia, he would issue an order to have them murdered by air bombs with his dog on his lap.
Infuriating.  At least have the self respect to say we live beneath tyrants but I refuse to love them.

I LOVE Jay, but you’re right–the system needs to change. Of course, Jay says the same thing, essentially,, toward the end.
