Weekend At Jeremy’s: The Lin Media Bandwagon Veers Off-Track

And just wait ’til some apologist/derailer gets ahold of Lin’s Xanga profile from his high-school days: Oh, it’s okay if he uses the word, yadda yadda yadda … Or maybe they used it as part of their entry into the contest hosted by the Nick and Artie Show, a DirecTV property, where listeners were invited to offer their most racist joke against Asian-Americans.

At least Sunday brought with it something positive: Lin’s first double-livetweet game, as the #ImAllLin and #ourchinatown hashtags followed his exploits against Dallas. Best buckle up, though: the more exposure Lin and the Knicks get the rest of this year, the more inanities we as readers and consumers are going to have to speak up against.

I’ve never really liked the idea of “it’s okay when they say it” notion for a roundabout reason… namely, why is it okay when “they” say it about “themselves?” I don’t think it is.

    Totally unrelated…

Am I the only one who thinks that Kenan Thompson is one of the best Black performers on SNL since… well, maybe even Eddie? Chris Rock has proven himself outside of the show, but when he was on they gave him almost NOTHING good to do.

I’ve always seen that in the vein of  “I can talk about my mama, but no one else can talk about my mama” since you have a closer connection to the subject at hand (in this case, race).

It’s really not okay when “they” say it against “themselves” The word and it’s meaning never changes, some people think that by using it it takes away it’s power but that’s bullshit. Hearing it from someone else always hurts therefore we shouldnt bother using it. I’m back [of carribean decent] and I do not use the word nigger or ‘nigga’ as a term of endearment and I refuse to. I just wish everyone else was smart enough to do the same. It’s not funny and it’s certainly not cute.
