"The U.S. House Judiciary Committee Wednesday approved the Security and Fairness Enhancement for America Act (HR 704), a bill that would eliminate the Diversity Immigrant Visa program, also known as the Green Card Lottery which grants about 55,000 immigrants permanent residency in the United States each year. The bill, sponsored by Intellectual Property Subcommittee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., passed the committee by a vote of 19-11."

"Lorena Halwood, who works with domestic violence victims on the Navajo Nation, said family abuse violates not only the law but the traditional Navajo way of life, which preaches harmony and talking with one another to mitigate problems. She stood with others in the Navajo Nation's capital this week, asking tribal lawmakers to support legislation that would specifically criminalize domestic violence for the first time on the reservation."

"Although Hispanics tend to have lower self-esteem than blacks or whites in the teen years, by age 30 their self-esteem has increased to the point that they have higher self-esteem than whites, a new study suggests. And in both adolescence and young adulthood, blacks have higher self-esteem than whites. By age 30, whites trailed both Hispanics and blacks in terms of self-esteem, according to the report published online July 4 in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology."
