WTF, You’re Still in BETA?

by Latoya Peterson

Yup, still in BETA until the Gummi Bears are plain and properly sized.

So, latest theme promises maximum flexibility and customization. Some things you will notice:

  • Same clean layout that all the readers love
  • Should be easier to navigate
  • Return of page based navigation
  • Can switch easily between dual side bar and single side bar layouts (more experimentation with that later)
  • The return of the sharing tools – to stumble upon, delicious, reddit, twitter, and facebook

Things we are still working on:

  • Accessibility for the visually impaired.  Special thanks to all the users who have written in so far letting us know when you spot an issue – if you are still having issues with size ratios/text enlargement, please let us know.
  • Page width – this theme allows us to play in a 960 space, however we configure it.  It does not allow for a larger playground, though it may be possible if I upgrade to the developer theme.  (For the WP devs in the house, we are messing around with the Platform theme.)

After this is done, we will continue working on:

  • The podcast (Our kingdom for an uninterrupted hour!)
  • Posts – we’ve missed a ton of things over the last few weeks, particularly since I’m traveling and Art is working
  • Site survey – it’s been three years since the last one!
  • Business updates (it’s hard out here for brown entrepreneurs)
  • A new feature: ideas lab
  • Email – we have 563 unread emails in the Racialicious inbox and about 700 more to respond to/add to the blog. Heaven help us.

Thanks for standing by, leave your comments/suggestions/complaints in the box below.

I’m digging the new search feature, more precise! I’m just getting around to watching Flashforward on Netflix because I haven’t had a TV in awhile and it’s easy to find the Racialicious Roundtable for Flashforward posts!

LOL A s a member of the ‘Table, allow me to sum up the ‘Table’s feelings w/out spoiling the plot: hated it!

      Don’t say you weren’t warned… 😀

That I am! It’s something I use to blow off steam, so I haven’t really gotten deep into world building like you can – but I am soooo looking forward to LBP2.

  • ZacMatic

    I like the favicon.

I love this new look! The text is easy to read on my ipod touch.

Have you tried the Thematic theme? It’s pretty great and if you know CSS can increase the width of the pages and do a lot of other customizations. I’m using it for 3 sites now, love it.

Ugh – I suck at CSS. I’m going to take some classes in desktop publishing, web design, and web development just so this will stop being a problem, but I won’t be ready for primetime for at least a year…

I’m liking the clean look, and totally cool with being in Beta til y’all are ready. I’m one person who knows what it’s like to all-of-a-sudden feel the busy creep up on you and smack you in the back of the head. Good luck with all those emails.
