This Week In Holiday Cheer (?): Antoine Dodson, the Xmas Carol

The video under the cut has been making the rounds, with not only Avon at Postbourgie, but the staff at The Rachel Maddow Show, so agog they couldn’t say more than, “Presented without comment.” It’s SFW, but still kinda WTF?

Interesting to hear the Vision Ministries choir change the “words” of Antoine Dodson’s original remarks from “Cuz they rapin’ everybody out here” to, “Cuz they takin’ everybody out here.” Perhaps the crowd at Liberty University – you know, the College Jerry Falwell Built – wouldn’t have been as receptive to hearing what Antoine was actually talking about when his sister was attacked in her own home, hmmmm?

This kind of act is the kind of fodder shows like Tosh.0 would normally eat up. Luckily – or perhaps unluckily – for the group’s PR, the show’s on hiatus. But at least one person saying he’s part of the group left this comment at the show’s site:

Thank you all for you comments! We had a lot of fun performing it in front of our family and friends, each of whom have NO problem with what we did, how we did it, or what we said. Not sure why the conductor has to be a d-ke, or why we all have to be lame for not saying the word rape, but you guys missed the point somewhere along the line. To then bash us for being Christians, especially because none of us attempted to convert anyone in this video, nor did we say that the unsaved are going to hell, really shows the true character of individuals. Ad hominem’s are only used when people can’t find a good argument or something nice to say, so we’ll assume this is the case. To my Liberty University family who supports us, thank you all! And to those who dislike us and apparently everything we stand for, thank you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Signed, The Black Guy in the video!

“Freddie’s” post highlights the other unfortunate development from this video: people trying to “guess” the sexual orientation of the young woman leading the choir. That’s neither here nor there, as far as I’m concerned. But what are the odds this ends up on iTunes by the end of the week? And would Antoine get songwriting royalties out of it?
