"As Arizona officials get ready to enforce SB 1070 at the end of this month, activists nationwide are stepping up their protests against the measure. In a new campaign called "30 Days, 30 Events for Human Rights," actions have been planned for each day leading up to July 28, the day before the bill is set to become law. The next day, activists plan to have a National Day of Non-Compliance."

"'I would like to preserve what we have before it gets totally out of control,' Murdough, a 30-year-old father of two young boys, said last week. 'The more it becomes non-white, the more it's going to become a much different place to live, for white people especially.' "Murdough says he's nonviolent, that his vision for a new America can be achieved without resorting to genocide or imprisonment. "So please, don't call him a racist. He says that's not true."

"Labeled 'birth tourists,' these moms consider the costly trips a privilege and money well spent. But for a growing number of Americans, they are ill-intended visits that take advantage of loopholes in the U.S. immigration system. "If this legislation is successful, it raises the question of how citizenship would be established. Many U.S. born residents use their birth certificates as proof of citizenship. But others have never obtained this document, and doing so is a hardship. Additionally, birth certificates are sometimes questioned for certain folks."

“'These women were extremely wary of most depression treatments and providers they associated with ‘White’ systems of care. Although they acknowledged that violence, depression and substance abuse adversely affected their health, discussions about health care revolved around their perceptions of racism,' said Christina Nicolaidis, M.D., M.P.H., principal investigator and an associate professor of medicine (general internal medicine and geriatrics), and public health and preventive medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine. 'Based on our findings, we recommend health and mental health providers endeavor to better understand and acknowledge how racism informs the experiences and perceptions of their patients.'”

"'Dietary patterns have been changing dramatically in Vietnam in recent years, particularly in the cities as they become more Westernised,' said Professor Tuan Nguyen of the Sydney-based institute."

"A whole hillside was dug out with graves waiting for 775 coffins to be laid to rest at the biggest Srebrenica funeral so far. Still, that was less than a 10th of the total number of Muslim men and boys murdered after Serb forces overran the UN-protected town on 11 July, 1995, during the 1992-95 Bosnian war."

"These encounters amounted to nearly one stop a year for every one of the 14,000 residents of these blocks. In some instances, people were stopped because the police said they fit the description of a suspect. But the data show that fewer than 9 percent of stops were made based on “fit description.” Far more — nearly 26,000 times — the police listed either “furtive movement,” a catch-all category that critics say can mean anything, or “other” as the only reason for the stop. Many of the stops, the data show, were driven by the police’s ability to enforce seemingly minor violations of rules governing who can come and go in the city’s public housing. "
