Addicted to Race 119: Annie Le, Gospel Tours, Fractions, Street Harassment
by Carmen Van Kerckhove

Addicted to Race is New Demographic’s podcast about America’s obsession with race. Here’s a rundown of what you’ll find in this episode:
What role did race play in the media coverage of Annie Le’s murder? Gospel tours bring in much-needed revenue for black churches, but is it worth it vis-a-vis the racial tourism? What’s wrong with calling a multiracial person “half” Chinese? What role does race play in street harassment of women?
Carmen Van Kerckhove, Tami Winfrey Harris and Jen Wang discuss; and Angry Asian Man Phil Yu and Racialicious Special Correspondent Wendi Muse make surprise guest appearances!
Addicted to Race is broadcast live every Sunday afternoon at 12 pm Eastern. You can listen live on our BlogTalkRadio page and call in by dialing 347-996-3958.

I think Melissa Harris Lacewell covered something similar to the gospel tours when she went to Robben Island and that some tourist were laughing and taking pictures when they were there and how it really bothered her.

I think with women physical safety race should overwrite that. I don’t see race or class but my safety as Jen said. A friend of mine said that that a white women would not get in a elevator with him on our college campus. It was late and it was only them, I explain to him that it was a safety issue for her as woman and not anything to do with his race. maybe it did , but as a women I’m not getting in a elevator at night by myself with a guy I don’t know sorry. Since I don’t live in the US race is not so important to me in this situation. I care about getting home safely in a country were many women don’t.

Kinda bummed that I missed this when it was live, I would have totally phoned in! I was in the middle of moving at the time. Que sera, sera. Excellent show, as always!
@Adrianna: When I visited Goree Island in Senegal, quite a few folks found the famous Slave House inexplicably hilarious as well. I was LIVID.
