Hmmm. The Obama poster idiot was arrested, as was artist Yazmany Arboleda for featuring Obama and nooses in “The Assassination Exhibit” last year…but the town hall jackhole with the gun and Timothy McVeigh t-shirt is allowed to roam free? Okay…

Can you guys cover the apology from William Calley for the Mai Lai massacre. It seems to me that the privileged set are gaining the courage to confess their misdeeds against humanity under President Obama(Change I can appreciate).

Not sure if you guys saw Dance Flick. I couldn’t stand most of the film, but after that black faced white girl got out of the car I just gave up. So yeah . . . White Girls 2 is gonna be great . . .

Okay, this is probably really, really bad and should go against all of my anti-racist and feminist sensibilities, but I was actually quite entertained by White Chicks, despite it being asinine.

And I liked the ending, because seemingly the Wayans brothers and the white girls they had spent the summer with ended up being genuine friends, despite being from totally different socio-economic racial groups….

Yeah, I just tried to seriously analyze White Chicks.

Medusa, I must admit I enjoyed White Chicks too. I loved Terry Crews mouthing ‘1000 Miles’!
Yeah, it was stupid but not really mean-spirited.

Wow… I think this has got to be the first time I’ve ever heard “White Chicks” discussed in terms of its own (very dubious) artistic merit.

Every other time I’ve heard the movie mentioned, it’s politically brandished by angry white people defending the use of blackface or other colorface: “But they used whiteface in White Chicks. HA! Got you there! Bet you weren’t expecting that, you fancy PC arguer! Now I totally win!”

Please please cover Distrinct 9! That piece on it was alright, I would love to hear what you guys would have to say about it however. I thought there was some great dystopian Johnny Got His Gun inspired scenes,
and thought provoking scenes on speciesim- How the hell can we continue to buy beauty products that are tested on animals, how can I continue to buy clorox wipes from proctor and gamble when all their products are tested on animals, how can science continue various forms of vivesection and experimenting on sentient beings? This film seemed more science fiction action adventure, but it was just as chilling and agonizing as Children of Men & it’s accompanying documentary

“… why aren’t there any cases to date involving convert families or Black American Muslims… You’d think that the hard core who have adopted all sorts of cultural practices from the Middle East would have even more to lose in terms of their so called ‘Islamic authenticity.”’”

    Great site, great posts.

Respectfully speaking, however, I think the quoted text is a misread of Islam and African Americans. The dominant strains of Islam among African Americans are Al-Islam, the Nation of Islam and the Moorish Science Temple. Among each, some of their core teachings include a clearly-expressed desire to avoid copying Arab culture. Islam is an expression of their spirituality and philosophy but not an attempt to imitate Middle Eastern norms. In fact, these African American Islamic groups often readily reject the trappings of Islam that don’t translate well to their urbanized, racialized reality.

These cultural differences _could_ be indicators as to why “honor killing” hasn’t been expressed in Islam as practiced by African Americans.

Again, great site with interesting thoughts. Carry on. :)
