"The news stories I read about little Malia weren’t so cerebral or celebratory. In fact, they were downright disgusting, and speak volumes about the deep divide that’s developed within the Republican party. I’m not going to get into the details, Jeff Douglas already did that well enough on Black Spin, and the less fuel on the racist fire, the better.
But I can’t help but wonder — is this really all about the teeshirt? Or is it also about her hair?"

It’s about her hair, the color of her skin and the fact that many racists can’t stand to see a black family in the White House. If they weren’t so racist, they would see her as a lovely, smart, confident little girl, but they are mean spirited and nasty. I find it funny though that some people try to compare what these folks said about her to anything said about the Bush twins, who were grown and in college and running around like crazed sorority girls, or Bristol Palin who got pregnant way to young and in direct contradiction of her mother’s espoused values. I mean, she is 12. But they made fun of Chelsea too, though I don’t think anyone called her trash or a whore. So wrong. I’m sure Mrs. Obama, her Mom and the Prez keep her well away from hearing that crap to the extent they can.

@ Lisa J,
Bristol Palin did what almost every Abercrombie and Fitch wearing teenage girl does. Except when Bristol laid down on that bed and had sex with her boyfriend, it wasn’t considered nasty OR a criminal act.
What’s going on with the internet commenters about Malia Obama is downright criminal. It’s hate speech. And I hope the Secret Service monitors their IP addresses, pulls their card, and if they come within a few hundred yards of the First Family, I hope that they are sacked, arrested and questioned to the fullest extent of the law.
Any man or woman that writes on the internet about a little girl like that? He/she ain’t human.

When Chelsea Clinton was thirteen or so, Rush Limbaugh called her the “White House dog” on his TV show. Rush also called her a “scumbagger”.
The racist (and other) attacks on Malia Obama are vile. Not that I expect decency from Free Republic.

This is beyond disgusting. She’s just a little girl, FFS! From what I’ve heard about Freepers, I shouldn’t be surprised at the vile racist comments, but to see such language in a supposedly moderated forum (as opposed to, say, youtube) was jarring, to say the least.
I don’t think there’s any comparison to comments made about Palin’s family. Not that a lot of people didn’t throw a lot of sexist shit with a side of classicism about them, but the scale of the vitriol in the comments about Malia is on another level (and again, directed against a prepubescent CHILD. The sexualised comments not only show them as ignorant racist fucks, but as people who probably shouldn’t be trusted around young girls. Yes, I went there).

This is disgustingly sexist and racist to be talking about a young girl like that. Some people have no sense of decency (especially to people they perceive to be “other”).

Yeah, the Bush twins were fucking brats who WHINED about how hard it was to have a father be president. Yes, all college students drink underage, but if you’re that high profile why the hell would you use a fake ID?
Anyway, the stuff about Malia is fucking despicable. I like how they frame it about how the t-shirt is so ghetto and trashy and blah blah blah but last time I checked, peace signs weren’t even associated with ghetto. Obviously the whole “that’s so ghetto” thing is racist bile trying to masquerade as something else (I like how none of those commentors specifically come out with a racial slur, but come on, who do they think they’re fooling?). Clearly, twists aren’t “ghetto” either, but that’s obviously what they’re referring to. Obviously, if black people don’t straighten their hair they’re being militant, ghetto, angry, socialist….

Anyone who looks at that picture and sees anything other than an adorable young girl looking/dressed like an adorable young girl is truly pathetic and repulsive.
Several commentors bemoaned the fact that the U.S. is now “a joke to the rest of the world”. Perhaps they ought to take their sorry selves, along with their families, to Europe and “represent” the U.S. themselves since they are unhappy with the job “Marxist” (L-O-L) Barack and his “radical” (L-O-L) family is doing…and stay there. Heh.

Things like this really upset me..I mean what exactly did Malia Obama do to direct this kind of racist vitrol at her? She wore a t-shirt with a peace sign on it? Seriously? That’s worthy of all this hate? It’s absolutely disgusting. She is a little girl, thrown in the spotlight because of her father’s job. She did absolutely nothing to warrant this type of commentary. Obviously, this kind of racist diaglogue is NEVER warranted, but I guess my point is, why are they even bothering to comment on her at all? Why is this picture so much more offensive to them than all the other pictures of her? I guess I just don’t understand what set these guys off on her now?
