Unless her parents came to the Bronx before 1917, they were “immigrants.” They were American citizens moving to a different city.

Re: asian kid fights back, gets charged with assault

There is a big problem in Keswick and the Lake Simcoe area of Ontario with regards to hate crimes, racial slurs etc, against Asians. Do a quick search on the internet for the term “nipper-tipping” and you will be disgusted as to what you will find. It’s no surprise the Asian kid did what he did.

I’m glad the Asian kid fought back. But I am appalled that he was suspended, let alone has been charged. The bully got what he deserves and I hope the DA drops the charges.

This is definitely racism and I’m glad the kids at the school recognize this. I’m so happy that they protested and wore clothes for the real victim, not mindlessly supporting the white kid.

That’s messed up about the Asian kid being “punished” for essentially defending himself! And what’s up with Michael Steele? Didn’t he say awhile back that the Repubs would refrain from personal attacks on Dems??

Wow, I wish that story about the Asian student was a bigger surprise to me. Obviously he was physically provoked as well but I’d suggest that the bigoted comments alone ought to count as violent provocation.

First, those kids in Pennsylvania throw racial slurs at a kid and then murder him in a fist fight, only to walk away with basic assault charges. Now a kid is himself charged to being the victim of a racial slur and physical attack, and fighting back.

It seems that the lesson for 2009 is that racism is completely the fault of the person being targeted. What’s next? Am I going to be charged for public unrest the next time someone calls me a”spic” in public?

I wish there was video of this incident. The remix potential…

This ALWAYS happens when a white person gets there ass handed to them during an epithet-based fight. I have never seen the aggressor meted out fair punishment. Never.

Angryasianman.com reported that the asian kid who got suspended for fighting back is now allowed back to school. The school board has stricken the suspension from his record. However, the kid still faces criminal charges.

I hope the criminal charges get thrown out and quick. Seriously, the thought of a defense that goes “Uhmm yeah, I’m charging him with assault because he broke my nose after I punched him in the face” is ludicrous and it’s disgusting any court anywhere would even consider it. Even though I have heard stories like this before with other minorities it still surprises me every time. LGBTQ person and/or racial minority defends their self from physical assault or reacts to violence in a violent manner they get in trouble while the instigator, and in many cases true perpetrator of assault, gets away scott free.

“I WISH EVERYBODY WOULD JUST LEAVE MICHAEL STEELE ALONE!!!” The man doesn’t know. He just doesn’t know. Clearly when someone says something he just agrees with it out of habit. I mean clearly wishing Jindal some “slum-love” was a gaff set up by an insidious liberal reporter, and this was clearly him not really paying attn, or maybe he wasn’t aware he was on air/being recorded and was responding to another question. Or maybe he regularly switches back and forth between English and Spanish and thought the caller said negro person, therefore meaning he thinks Obama is a black person whose rise was magical? Bunch of gotcha-journalism is what this is. Now, back to my urban suburban hip-hop music.
