Racialicious is now on Twitter

by Latoya Peterson

I blame Carmen.

She has decided Racialicious needs to be on Twitter.

So now I’m on Twitter. Well, technically we. The official Racialicious Twitter feed is now live.

Add us if you’d like.

(And why no, I have no idea how I am going to communicate in 140 characters when our normal blog posts are 3 pages long. Why do you ask?)

If you’ve got ideas, tips, or a cool profile, leave me a message in the comments.

    I’m @knitmeapony over there — I use it to tweet about 18-25 links a day, everything from kitty pictures to political news to hippy liberal screeds.

    I’ve tweeted (or re-tweeted) quite a few articles from this site, too.

    Welcome to Twitter, I’m kind of a huge nerd for it, so feel free to dm or @reply any questions you might have to me.

    Thanks Laurie! And yes, put your name in here so I know to look for you! I already got TCS, looking for UDMPG…

    I would really like to see articles that the authors come across that are similar to the stories that appear here, but maybe don’t merit a while post, or would otherwise take too long to post. Act as a filter for everyone else on race related issues. Sharing links on twitter takes all of 30 seconds (use tiny it tiny URL service- you can track how many people you drove to the site). Also post when you update the blog. Twitter updates faster than most RSS feeds, and people check them more often.

    Welcome! (Is it just me or has Twitter blown up in the last week?) I don’t have a cool profile or anything but I’m not totally boring… @shani_o

    And PostBourgie is on Twitter, too, but G.D. hasn’t posted about it yet. @postbourgie.

    Erm, well I guess you could write up summary’s and link to articles on there?

    My condolences.

    Also, please do more than just link to blog posts. That gets old for your followers, who probably already subscribe in a reader.

    I like the idea of a 140 character limit. Constraint spurs creativity. I’ve never had a blog before, and this might be a good way to put my thoughts out there.

    I am concerned about the possible repercussions if I were to say something objectionable and someone at work read it. A common blogging dilemma, of course. How have y’all handled it?

    (I am not using a pseudonym.)

  17. Latoya Peterson wrote:

    Thanks everyone!

    @Ms.Four – No, I plan to do more than that. Probably stuff I like, blog posts we’re thinking about, cool ideas, comments from the other correspondents, things like that. I’ll include blog posts in that.

    @Elton –

    140 characters can’t normally scratch what I am thinking. I’ll make it work though. Twitter Haiku freestyle.

    And repercussions are a huge thing. We just decide if what we have to say is worth taking the consequences for. Sorry to say that’s the best advice I can give. One advantage of doing things under your real name is that no one can “out” you. So that’s a plus.

    :( Are you going to be ONLY on Twitter, or you’ll be multi-tasking between both there and this blog? Aww…

    I only just started to really get into this blog (yeah, I’m lazy, and I adjust to new stuff badly).

  19. Latoya Peterson wrote:

    @golby260 –

    No need to fret – Racialicious is still here in full force. The Twittering is an extension of what we do here, not a replacement.

    Oh but Twitter is great. Just watch out for the famous names because some of them are fake accounts like Maya Angelou. I didn’t think it was her but I did get happy for a minute or two at the prospect. On the other hand Jane Fonda does have an account, it’s legit and she’s actually writing not an assistant. Carmen was one of the first to follow me.
