“Sample: “’I’ve received death threats on the phone, especially from black people,’ [b.d.] said. How did he know, over the phone, their ethnicity? ‘They sound African-American.’” There’s more!”

“Oñate is a documented conqueror who killed, enslaved, or brutalized Indians. He was tried and convicted by his contemporaries for crimes against humanity. But “wealthy whites and Hispanics” want to honor him for founding Southwestern communities.”

“Desre’e was 6 years old. According to the police report, the tantrum she threw in kindergarten last spring was criminally disruptive. She was charged with battery on a school official and disruption of a school function. “

Wow, these are all deep. Who knew that someone from Spain who was a conquistador is a symbol of “positive” Hispanic achievements in the US. Especially if he was tried in Spain for his actions, and Spain really wasn’t all warm and fuzzy for the indigenous peoples and let many injustices against them at that time slide.
A 6 year old black girl being arrested for a temper tantrum in class and a 7 year old black boy being arrested for riding his dirt bike on the side walk. Scary, as were some of the comments on the Essence website saying it was a good way to “scare them straight”. What ever happened to the school calling the parent and saying your kid is acting out, come get her or the cops warning the kid or even taking him home and telling his parents rather than arresting him. Criminalizing the youth for doing things kids do is crazy. Should they have been disciplined or chastised in someway? Sure. Arrested? No way!!! I’m sure they are both traumatized. I also doubt that if they were little white kids this would have happened, unless of course if they were really dirty scruffy poor kids, then it would have been possible but still not as likely.
As for the t-shirt “designer” and his alleged death threats, I hope that troll crawls back under the rock he slid out from.

The idea of incarcerating a child for having a tantrum is ridiculous. This is the first that I am hearing of this. Incidents like this are exactly why POC have a legitimate fear of police. They don’t exist to keep us safe they exist to target us and keep the race and class hierarchy in place.

That is not at all far fetched. Not only can I distinguish between most blacks and whites from their accents and dialects, I can often tell whether they (white or black) are from the north, south, midwest or west coast.

To Arnold Layne, from a Black woman:
Once I answered the phone at my grandparents’ house; it was a call for my aunt. After I handed her the phone, the friend who called asked her, “Who’s that White girl?”
Also, no one has ever been able to guess where I’m from because of my weird accent. I’ve heard, “Are you Canadian?”, “German?”, “Caribbean?”, “British?”, “Chinese?” No, no, no, no, and no. ^_^

True. Even in the 1960’s during the Civil Rights Movement, they were locking up the children that got involved, even at such a young age.
I think it may have also been a tactic, to show how certain people of the time were not above harming children or imprisoning them.

I think a couple of years ago, a young black girl was put in handcuffs at a school over a tantrum. She was five or six years-old at the time.
An aggressive black child is doubly dangerous because 1) the kid is aggressive and 2) the kid is black which enhances the perception of danger.
As for being able to tell if someone is black just by hearing them on the phone? That’s dangerous territory there, Arnold Lane. If you play into stereotypes, you’ll hear a woman on the phone and if you don’t hear Keyshia Cole, you’ll assume it’s a white lady.

I can only wish the fashion designer had his life threatend by Black People. lololol Do you think that Black Folks are going to waste their time and anger on a publicty whore who also lied that 4 black kids beat up a patron who was going to sue him (if it was true he probaly paid them to do just that) Black Americans are tired of hearing people tell us that we are imagining things or to “toughen up”. It is one thing to ask people to practice some personal responsiblity, but it’s quite another to pander, excuse government misbehavior , violate people’s human rights to life , liberty, and the pursuit of happiness wherther it comes from well meaning Black Americans or obviously igorant and racist Americans.
No child should have to be scared straight because some children act out in class or ride their bikes on the sidewalks, if this is what Cosby, Obama and the critics of Black America “tough love” crowd want then they are playing with fire and will get future generations of Black American mistrust of Police and Law Enforcment. We are living in a country of extremes when it comes to race in America and punishment and Arnold Layne, you couldn’t who’s black over a phone line if a rock fell on you.
