    RE: Burning Cross Story…

When has having friends of color ever justified an action clearly perceived as a hate crime? That argument has long been played out. Try again.

“It was all a joke,” Briggs told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “He’s got mixed friends. He’s got black friends – he does not hate people. If he knew it was considered a hate crime, he would never have done anything like that.”

Some of the denial from people in this country when it comes to racism scares me sometimes.

    @JJH13,

Agreed. We should also put a moratorium on the “I have sex with people of color” excuse.

…….my jaw just dropped so far, I think I’ll have to retrieve it from the basement. That is either mindboggling stupidity or heart-stopping chutzpah.

It wasn’t racist…but it was a burning cross, with a white sheet over it.

Why else are people burning crosses on front lawns?

Maybe, in Arkansas, cross burning has a cultural meaning that I’m unaware of.

Maybe something along the lines of:

“Welcome to your new home. Hope you enjoy the community-sponsored light show in your yard.”

Did the perp just stumble into the “6-foot cross store” and make a spontaneous purchase?

Really, how do you happen to come by one of those? I mean…for a prank.

    Re: “The Negro Crime Rate”

Police discrimination, unequal access to housing, condescending attitude by white liberals? Sound familiar?

Have we really come that far since 1958? In some ways, yes. But it seems there are a lot of core issues that haven’t changed too much over the past 50 years.

Let’s review: a white kid burns a cross in front of a mixed-race family’s home and he has NO idea that it’s a form of intimidation?

This is like Kelly Tilghman being from South Carolina , using the term “lynch” in reference to Tiger Woods, and then saying she had NO idea what it mean. That lady basically took a Duke University degree and urinated on it. Last time I checked, there are PLENTY of books on that sort of thing at Duke. All you have to do is open one of them and read all about it.

There are some diggity damn fools out there these days, folks.

Glad they’re prosecuting it as a hate crime! To hell with the “I didn’t know….” excuse about anything when it comes to these types of things. People read and watch television they know what they’re doing and are full of shit when they pull that bullshit card.

As for the article written in ‘58 its an opaque journal that proves that those whites have always known whats going on. Thats why it pisses me off so much when someone white acts like its a figure of “our” imagination…
