You guys need to write about that horrible ed-op in the NY Times today, about how Obama is an Islam apostate and if elected will ruin the war on terror cause all the Muslims will hate him.
I wrote a little rant about it, but my analysis of race and religion bias pales next to yours.

In my opinion, people like Mr. Patrick cannot be successfully engaged in the short-term.
This doesn’t mean they can be written off. I think a lot of older white people have changed their minds on racial issues. If you read accounts of why they changed, there’s not many commonalities… just the accumulated weight of people and encounters in their lives that showed them they didn’t have to think that way and shouldn’t think that way.
I also agree with the author that shame is an important motivator. A lot of moral discourse in America is ruled by the idea that we’re supposed to be sovereign individuals who do the right thing because it’s the right thing. The reality is a lot more complicated.

Juan over at Highbrid Nation put me on to thewhite valedictorian of Morehouse story. Seems like a lot of people are upset. Lol, some people didn’t even know white people were allowed to attend Morehouse. Honestly my opinion is that this is good for race relations. If us black people wanted to be fully embraced in American culture, we have to fully embrace the rest of America in ours.

@Mike Belgrove – I agree that this could help to improve race relations. I think the people who are acting upset over this are being very counter productive. The best way to overcome one’s ignorance of a population is to live amongst them and really seek to educate yourself. I don’t see how anyone could possibly complain about that.
