I agree with Armstrong. Clinton was isolating demographic groups that support her. Factually, she’s done well with the working class and with working class whites. She has not done well with the black vote and that’s why she qualified that. She was not saying hard working = white. If she claimed to be doing well with the black vote, that would be inaccurate and that’s likely why she qualified it.

I think Clinton was suggesting that all working-class people were hard working and therefore, working-class white people were all hard working. Based on hearing her talk about working class several times, she always seems to qualify working-class with hard-working.
