Um, what’s with the Obama blackface, sir?

Don’t you know? Blackface is still acceptable in Japan. That’s a whole other messy bag of stuff though.

i didn’t think formal commentary on the obama/clinton race for the white house could have been worse than the gloria steinem piece, but the morgan article on Comment Is Free took the cake. her use of oppression olympics was so heavy it gave me a headache. she goes on to make the assertion that women can be of many races, only after comparing the struggles of women to that of blacks as if they are always separate categories. another part that enraged me was her discussion of black hillary supporters being called race traitors, yet no mention of women of color who support obama as being called traitors to their gender, which i hear far more often. the grievances she expressed with regard to sexist epithets also fell on deaf ears, at least in my case. she notes that americans take sexism less seriously and that racist attacks are the end all be all in press coverage, but i have read countless articles on sexism geared toward clinton in the campaign, while some racist attacks on obama, some of which were launched by the clintons themselves, have been ignored or swept under the carpet. morgan’s piss poor attempt to deal with identity politics in an intelligent way was really disappointing.

That pic is tame from what I have seen in terms of Blackface in Japan. What’s up with that!

WTF?
This wasn’t cool when Steinem did it, and it isn’t cool now.

BTW, in Japan people touch their noses to indicate “me” like in the US we touch our chests to indicate ourselves. The blackface is kind of weird, but he is pointing to himself in the pic by the finger on the nose. At least he’s excited about Obama.
