Because not only was Eddie Murphy “funny” enough to don a fat suit to play yet another stereotypically obese and revolting black woman, he also did hideous yellow face as “Mr. Wong”, an extremely crude racial stereotype of a Chinese man.
And the Academy decides THAT’S worth honoring?
I’ve come across many people who seem to not undertand why the Mr. Wong character is quite so offensive. Yet ironically, they’d find a non-black person donning blackface offensive (rightly so, but why the double standard towards Asians?). Maybe you could create a post about what it means?
