Do you know what I find interesting? Out of all the articles and other media reports on the Aqsa Parvez case that have mentioned that this should be a domestic/child abuse case, period (opposed to cultural/religious), not one has compared this to Bountiful, BC/Warren Jeffs. Sure, Warren Jeffs didn’t kill anyone, but he’s certainly abused many, many, many young girls. And his connections to an unrecognized Mormon sect is ALWAYS referenced. There’s little oppostion to that fact, unlike Aqsa’s. I’m sorry, but I have trouble accepting the fact that we have to be overly sensitive in this case because Dad and daughter are not white.

I don’t see how Aqsa Parvez’ father is comparable to Warren Jeffs. Was her father an Islamic leader that used his religious position to systematically abuse other people’s daughters? No.

He was a father that was physically abusing his daughter probably throughout her life, and finally killed her.

Regarding the New American Media poll results published in the NY Times.

Two statements that do not reconcile.
Large majorities of Hispanics and Asians credited American blacks and the civil rights movement with making life easier for them here.
and yet how ironic that ….
only 44 percent of African-Americans polled said they believed that hard work would bring them success, and 66 percent of African-Americans said they did not believe that everyone in the United States had an equal opportunity to succeed.
But Anon, we can’t ignore culture or religion in this case. I don’t know if you’re from Canada, but many of the bigger domestic violence cases have involved women of South Asian descent.
