There is a God. (Or rather, a Goddess. :D )

I bet a lot of “white” Americans have African (and/or Native American) genes in their background. Even those not from the South. Many light-skinned blacks who “passed” would claim Portuguese, Spanish, or Cherokee ancestry. That “Cherokee great-grandma” is often really a biracial black great-grandma.

Now I want to go to that National Geographic project and get my own DNA tested. Just because I wonder who contributed to my own ancestry.

As for Watson…oh, that’s beautiful. *wipes away tear*

    Dear Doctor Watson,
I am so wait, just a minute, I’m so sorry, , I don’t mean to laugh - but damn, now that you’ve been outed as an official Black man according to American rules, you might consider applying for Andrew Young’s newly-revoked Black card. Although, given what you’ve said there is a possibility of rejection. I’ve heard that forgiveness is all, so you might give it a try: Black folks have a long history of forgiveness in an unforgiving American wilderness. And as one with such a brilliant mind, you must understand the connection between forgiving and forgetting. I hope that you do as both cases are what you will have to surmount. With that said, I must tell you that if the matter ever comes up for a vote, my answer will be no. Nothing personal I assure you.

    Sincerely and without malice,

One of the reasons for giving her back is because she would not eat their food.

    I call B.S.

She’s 7. Every child goes through that phase where they wont eat a damn thing. Put a healthy meal in front of them and all they want is Twinkies.

    Just my 2 cents.

Mickey - if “not eating their food” was a criterion for giving a kid back my parents would TOTALLY have sent me back to…um… the hospital? God? I was the world’s fussiest eater, at times refusing all but peanut butter sandwiches and bananas (yes, I had the gag reflex from hell and still do).

Fast forward to mumblemumble years later and I eat just about everything but organ meats and beets. That poor kid’s parents are fools, but I bet “she won’t eat our food” was a thinly veiled excuse for “we don’t want a kid who doesn’t look like us now that we have OUR OWN GENETIC MATERIAL.” What rotten parents. They don’t deserve to have kids.

She would not eat “their” food. She was adopted as an infant. “Their” food was HER food, she doesn’t KNOW any other food. So because she is of Korean ancenstry she only eats Korean food? Gimme a break. I second your BS.

Re the Korean girl: I third your BS. She doesn’t even know how to speak Korean so she was at least assimilated to that extent. The parents should be forced to pay her new adoptive family for her upkeep until she is of legal age.

Re Watson: Someone on another forum had this priceless remark: Obviously the 16% wasn’t enough to overcome the 84% genetic stupidity that remained.

And yeah, I’m still waiting for Skip Gates to do a PBS special featuring famous white folks’ DNA. I mean, who the hell DOESN’T know that African-Americans are mixed with other races?

He’d have to be careful in his choosing, though: I’m guessing that the longer the white person’s family has been in this country, the more likely it is that he/she has African ancestry. It’s been quoted that between 1 and 15% of the white American population has at least one African ancestor.

To Ailurophile: I LOVED peanut butter & banana sandwiches when I was a kid.

Great. Now I want one. :)

I say there is more to this story that is being told (always the case).
