Mos Def, among many other folks, are calling “for a National Student Walk-Out to rally and show support for the Jena 6, who are being denied their human rights by the Louisiana criminal justice system.”

“the real reason Jay-Z was extended the right to purchase part of the team is because they are slated to move to Brooklyn, NY…This move involves a very controversial displacement of longtime residents and a land grab”

“Karrine Steffans is the prototypical, stereotypical Jezebel. More black people, especially women, should be highly pissed off that she’s able to profit from this image. Where’s the boycott of this ******?”

Ja Rule has his own twist on our favorite saying here at Racialicious: “I can’t be racist, I have interracial sex!” Only his version is :”I can’t be homophobic, I have gays over for Christmas!”

At the risk of violating my own comment moderation policy… who the eff cares? Why is OJ still considered newsworthy? Seriously… I could not care less what the man is up to.

Stupid study alert. There are many college students who don’t live on campus. And furthermore, as the article points out, “most prison inmates are 25 or older while 96 percent of people in college housing are age 18 to 24.”

“We dont need another movement, not if it’s focused on the doings of outsiders. Instead, we need to…figure out what our role in America’s racial morass is and what our response to the continuing existence of systemic racism should be. “

Re Karrine Steffans: Illuminating piece from Susie Bright’s recent interview with Jessica Cutler (a/k/a Washingtonienne) on both the hypocrisy of celebrity/powerful cheaters caught and double standards placed upon “tell all’s”.

Refreshing to live in a society where pursuers of any persuasion can brag, lie, cheat, and sneak about their desires; blame the ones they woo for what happens; and fling choice words of judgement for the messengers without taking responsibility. That’s walking with a wide stance indeed, yeah…

There is a HUGE difference between jessica and Karrine was dragged out than decided to make a book and still did not reveal herself till dragged out again. Plus I don’t believe she intends to continue on with her former life to make another book. Nor did she deny who she was.
Karrine is a merc. She exposed herself than tried to play victem to the big bad men who were paying her. She had other career options but chose to play the mistress/golddigger. Than had the nerve to come out with another book and say she is representing single black women.

As a guy, I had honestly tuned out all this stuff previously. But then I’ve read Susie Bright’s interview with Ms. Cutler, along with Kam William’s interview with Ms. Steffans

Now I’m rethinking, and while the backstories still raise some questions for the women, I’ve really got some questions for the men too.
Both women, born in 1978, lived highly unapologetic sexual lives and wrote about them. Had they been men, I can’t help but think they’d be celebrated for their conquests or exploits (compare to the memoirs of male actors, athletes, artists, musicians, etc.).
As women, if their sexcapades were steeped more in tragedy, there would be more sympathy for them. If they were men, there would be a push to assign a moral failing to external circumstances.
That both endured scandal to capitalize on their fame adds to their lack of sympathy, perhaps?
“Cheaters code of honor ans secrecy”. The corollary: gentleman never ask for sex, ladies never think about sex, so no one ever talks about it, therefore no one ever cheats.
(Note to Mike: Cutler is actually working on the second book as well as the film version of the first book, pending the outcome of the DC lawsuit– the AR lawsuit was dismissed).
