Sherri Shepherd doesn’t know if the world is flat

Even though my usual policy on Racialicious is to only post things that make white people look stupid (although, I guess that makes me a self-hating white person), I had to share this with you.
Uh, WTF?

Well, Carmen, you’re a little late on this one, but I must say, I am surprised. I was certain that any Racialicious post regarding this Sherri episode would revolve around the media’s lampooning of Shepherd, not that you would join in the chorus. Kudos. It bothers me that Barbra Wawa couldn’t find a fitter, more articulate black woman to fill that seat (if they were that concerned about casting two black women). Rosie may have been a loon, but she could always back up her conspiracy theories with some type of subtance and hold her own in a debate. If Sherri wants to be a religious conservative, she needs to do a better job of defending her perspective, and stop getting stumped by questions that even the most adamant creationists know the answers to.
As a black woman, I think Sherri is beyond feckless and plays into a lot of stereotypes about black women that I try to distance myself from. I’ve mourned the loss of Star Jones on that show on more than one occasion (I used to Tivo the View), but had a feeling that, despite being an articulate, stylish lawyer, that was never an embarassment, her days on the show were numbered with each lost pound and each remark made about her wedding date, as she slowly evolved from being the obese, non-threatening black stereotype, that she was originally cast to be. No matter though, they have a new one in Sherri to take her place, and unlike Star, she isn’t nearly as bright and doesn’t have a law degree . . .all the better, I suppose.

the view should stick to easy/simple topics b/c they seem to be a bit low on the IQ scale most of the time. only bite off what you can chew, ladies.

…oh yeah, I’ve got an uncle who is a nice but wacky guy. He will argue with you all day about this, and also that all space travel is fake. He’s an armchair intellectual, I think Sherri is a bible thumper who doesn’t believe in science…
Kinda explains the “Leprechaun in Mobile, Alabama” story that was in the news awhile back…

Dear fucking god. This makes me so, so glad I no longer live in the US. What an embarassment.
Want to prove the earth is round? Get on a plane, morons.
And discussing the christian god as if it were more proven and absolute than a globular globe. Again, morons.
“View” seems to signal the beginning of the end of American, if not “Western”, Civilization. Out with neither bang nor a whimper, just a feeble fart.

I was wondering about this. I know that there are many passages in the Bible that are consistent with a flat earth. I wouldn’t know them, though.
To know that the earth is round think about a total eclipse of the moon; the shadow of the earth’s curved edge would be visible.

Again, don’t watch the View, but I just got subjected to viewing the new host of the show saying that she didn’t know if the world was flat or not.
Anyone watch NCIS?
There are days I really just want to go on a world tour and give really stupid people a Gibbs style smack on the back of the head.
What have you never seen a GLOBE?
Photos of earth from space?
A Sci-Fi movie?
“I don’t know if the world is flat or not. I think about feeding my kids.”
I’m not quite sure which is worse.
Okay, does your brain only allow for ONE kind of thought at a time? Am I some sort of genetic freak with a mind that actually holds various trains of thoughts at the same time?
OR
The fact someone who doesn’t know if the earth is round or not has children?

Tasha,
I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on Star. I often heard she made many a cringe-worthy statement, and was a general pain to watch.
However, when The View came somewhat on my radar (during the Star-firing debacle), I was surprised to find how dignified and forthright she was in the midst of all the hoopla.
Harrr!!!!

I thought it was a joke gone corny, I kept waiting for her to say just playing yall. Than I realized she was dead serious and thats when it got funny. I think I’ll start watching more of this View show.

I didn’t watch this clip, but I watched another that showed the setup, where Whoopi Goldberg was making a point about evolution by pointing out that we accept science on some issues, like the earth being round. Sherri seemed to go out of her way to interject and sound dumb about the roundness of the earth, when the issue at hand was evolution. Maybe she was just trying to change the subject?
In any case, it was painful to watch, though Whoopi is great. Why isn’t anyone talking about her?

I won’t/can’t defend S.S. at all, but did find her appearance on last night’s (9/21) “The Tonight Show” interesting. Don’t have a link/clip handy, but wondering if others caught it?
Clear on her religious conservatism to Jay Leno, she chalked up her response to misunderstanding the technical terms in the setup tossed her way. Note beforehand an extended bike riding anecdote involving her pants shredded and panties exposed with old people laughing at her. She was the second guest of the evening aftere “House’s” Hugh Laurie.
Re Star Jones: I dislike discussions of television/movie/celebrity– especially “of color” figures–where speculations about personality turn on how articulate or intelligent or sincere they appear on screen. Don’t know ‘em personally, don’t owe ‘em that attention…

I never cared for Star Jones and her homophobia. Ironically she marries Al Reynolds who may very well be gay or bisexual.
As an African American atheist (yes we do exist), Sherri Sheperd is the one of the many holy rollers, we unfortunately have in abundance in the black community. These folks who think they are always right, and judge other people (gays, Jews, scientists, secularists, other Christians who don’t follow their Christian domination etc.) but yet their own backyards are overflowing with garbage.

Why don’t some Christians believe that one of the things Jesus would do is tell them to shut up for a minute and let it be?
I’m not gonna hide my Christianity; but damn, this must’ve been one of the more pressing temptations.
