I know you’re a 50 cent partisan Carmen, but at some point you have to acknowledge that Kanye won. :P

Meanwhile the National soccer team of France is 90% African-french.

The French National Soccer Team is kind of like the
Yankees. Remember when former French colony Senegal beat them (soundly) in 2002?

Yeah, they didn’t even qualify in 2006. And suddenly, the French team looked a lot more “diverse”.

    Coincidence….?

Wow, yet another dianosis for Africa without a real solution. I’m totally shocked.

I don’t think Beyonce meant anyhing “self hateful” in her comments. Probably just wanted to comment on Latin culture & heritage and the fact that many of them KNOW who they are in connection to their history (i.e. the exact country their family came from) where as the only thing most black people know (or think*) about themselves is that they are African American and decendants of slaves. Which country in Africa? Most of us do not know.
Anyway, I bet she has run into some discrimination as a black woman, but I doubt B really has self esteem low enough to ACTUALLY want to be a different race. (at least at this point in her life, anyway) IMO

Not that I like France or anything like that but it actually was a coincidence that Senegal didn’t qualify for the World Cup in 2006 and that the French team seemed more diverse. Quite a few of the notable African soccer superpowers including Nigeria and Cameroon fell at the last hurdle. It had absolutely nothing to do with France poaching their players if that’s what you’re implying. Also the French teams of recent years – the last 10 years at least have all been relatively diverse with some notable immigrants occupying prominent positions. Their world cup win in 1998 included players such as Viera, Trezeguet, Zidane to name a few.

The Sarkozy speech has little to do with the French national team. It’s amazing that Sarkozy had the audacity to stand in front of a group of African students in Africa and tell them that they have no history. I’m not sure whether I’m more comfortable with him laying his racist beliefs bare for us all to see or for him to offer meaningless platitudes and think them in private. At least we all now know that not only does he thinks Africans are the inferior other, he has no qualms about saying it in front of us…

Also, though I like Racialicious and read it religiously, you guys are months late in reporting this…
