Except for his willingness to vote for an amendment that he knew would never pass, he’s usually supported gay rights legislation, hired gays, and everything you’d expect of someone who isn’t anti-gay. He’s even supported civil unions, so his opposition to gay marriage isn’t a lot different from many in the Democratic Party who take that stance, including most of the Democratic presidential candidates.
