Hehe. Mocking ESPN contributor Jemele Hill’s fondness for writing open letters to entire “classes” of persons based on the activities of individuals. This spoof turns into a lecture to Young White Men.

“Although well-intended, the hate crime law fails to give us a view into the motives of the most heinous crimes, and thus fails to satisfy our desire to put hatemongers in a class by themselves.”

I re-read the article and it says they might charge these ass-holes with a hate crime can anyone answer what the basis for it is?

Brad,
Other stories I’ve read said that they repeatedly used racial slurs as they attacked her. I assume this was the basis of the hate crime allegation.

Thanx Carmen. I read somewhere they did confessed that they did attack her for racial reasons.

Brad – they are not pursuing hate crime charges, instead going for state kidnapping charges which means life in prison, stiffer than the hate crime charge. Hate crime fits, but in this case, stiffer penalty is the goal. Having said that though, I like your first idea for the penalty instead. They surely would have done the same to her if they had more time.

Yeah I read an update and was a little stunned to hear that the hate crimes statute didn’t carry a stiff enough penalty for something like this. I got a few issues with hate crime legislation. Such as the lack of clarity on what is a hate crime and what isn’t. PS I did read the hate crime article below interesting stuff.
Peace.
