Poor judgment call by the Associated Press on this one, especially given all the noose activity lately (Jena Six, U of Maryland). Hat tip to Resist Racism.

Likely intentional. There seem to be lots of nooses around lately, Jena, UMD, this article and all the other places they are not reported.
Once a noose was left in a hospital emergency room years ago, and no one would mention its presence in writing during the investigation. That was my introduction to the “power” of the noose.
well, given enough rope someone will hang themselves on poor word choice. all the noose that fits that bent, no?
Uggh. What the heck were they thinking?

And they keep saying this is not about race.
Wow…to think, someone copy edited that.
I think this is a classic example of how privilege manifests itself in the media.
(Not conscious) Whites lack the emotional proximity to the historical reality of Blacks in America. As such they disregard the pain, anger, and fear associated with terms like the n-word and lynching metaphors.
What the hell??!
Looks like they they used the right word to fit how every one treated that case.
If it was unintentional the editor should be demoted and sent back to journalism school. If it was intentional (and I’m a little more than suspicious) they should be obviously fired.
wow, that’s really lame. looks like someone wasn’t thinking.
How did this get past the copy editor? It was obviously intentional. Both the writer and the copy editor should be fired!
I first read about this on GlobalGrind’s MySpace page, at http://www.myspace.com/theglobalgrind. And I had to come check out more of the story.
