Please fill out 5-minute survey
by Carmen Van Kerckhove
Could you do me a huge favor?
I’m constantly striving to make this blog as compelling and relevant as possible for you. But I need your help to take it to the next level!
Please fill out this brief feedback survey: Click here to take survey
I designed it to learn more about your impressions of New Demographic, why you read Racialicious, what you like, and what you don’t like as much.
I’d also like to learn more about who you are and how we can better tailor our content to suit your needs and interests.
There are 16 questions in total and I promise that it will take less than 5 minutes to fill out.
If there’s an asterisk in front of a question, it means that you must select an answer before moving onto the next page.
The survey is completely anonymous, and your information will not be sold or shared with anyone.
Thank you SO much for your time! ![]()

Gladly completed… I’m curious about what you learn from/about the readership.

I’m assuming the survey choice meant to say Asian OR Pacific Islander, rather than Asian Pacific Islander

okay…i began to take the survey, keeping in mind that one comment i wanted to make was that racialicious is really lacking in coverage related to middle eastern people, and has been for the past two years that i’ve been reading. then on the first page of the survey, i see that, in the ‘check your ethnicity’ list, ‘middle eastern’ isn’t even an option. why is this? i am actually really annoyed by this, too pissed to finish the survey. are you not interested in the opinions of middle eastern people, assuming no middle eastern people read this blog, or classifying middle eastern people as white?
mixed media watch/racialicious/addicted to race have been great resources for me during the past two years, but i have been consistently disappointed with the (lack of) representation, and to not even be represented in a simple survey question is a slap in the face. this is ridiculous, not just because media coverage of middle eastern people is ENDLESS and almost always negative.
i am not trying to be overly dramatic–this is something i’ve (and many others) dealt with over and over within anti-racist organizing/groups, and the question of not being counted has had very real repercussions for our communities.

Hey Nadia, what can I say? You’re right - I totally screwed up on this one. Since I phrased the question as “what is your ‘race’ or ethnicity?” as opposed to “race” alone, I should have had an option for “Middle Eastern.”
I hope you’ll still share your feedback though - because it’s valuable to me. If you’d rather not fill out the survey, please feel free to email me directly at carmen@newdemographic.com. I’d love to talk with you more offline about this anyway.
Over 200 people have responded to the survey so far and already I’ve gotten some great ideas for things we need to work on, including:
–coverage of Latino issues
–coverage of Middle Eastern issues
–male perspective, since most of the posts are written by women
–sports coverage
–older perspective, since most of the posts are written by the under-35 set
and so on…
Please keep the great suggestions coming!
