Since black male athlete/entertainer types are perhaps the most visible blacks in the media, they are default role models that other blacks often emulate regardless of whether or not they are as wealthy as the athlete/entertainers they see in the media. IMHO Halle gets a pass in the media for several reasons. a) she’s crazy rich, b) her man is white c) halle’s a sympathetic figure given her previous two marriages and confession that she does not intend to marry again and d) this pregnancy was probably planned.

    And you are right about Berry getting a pass from the MSWM she gets sympathy from the fact that David Justice and Eric Benet were black sexual deviants and Autry’s a good looking white guy and she’s white america’s sweetheart who’s finally doing what successful black women should have been doing “get that white savior”. Like Joesphine, Lena, Eartha, Diana Whitney didn’t and looked what happened to her because of the evil “black man” BOBBY BROWN !!!!!

    Yes, they are, although poverty and educational level are linked. Teen pregnancies have DECREASED nationwide and across almost all ethnic groups (except API – my guess is that that’s sheerly because of increases in immigration and cultural issues). More older women are having babies, whether married or not, due to medical advances, choices to establish a career first, not waiting until marriage to have a baby with a partner, etc.

    Not true anymore. According to the CDC, in 2004 (the most recent data set), of unmarried mothers, the largest number of unmarried babies are to Hispanic mothers, then Black, then White, then API. That of course does NOT mean that the CHILDREN are (only) black just because the MOTHERS are black. And as usual, the feds don’t count multiethnic folks…

    I think for the most part, if someone is younger and wants to get married in the future, people raise brows with out-of-wedlock kids. Like Brad and Angelina, Halle has been there and done that. She doesn’t ever plan on doing it ever again. Plus she’s a grown-a– woman. The same rule applies in real life. If you plan on getting married and you’re 22 and get pregnant, I’m going to raise a brow because to me, the whole situation just seems immature in every way. Age doesn’t equate to maturity, but it at least generally equates to increased financial stability.

    Our society’s increasingly liberal on these issues. I can’t imagine myself having a kid now out of wedlock. At 35 or 40 though, who knows? Tick tock is all I’m hearing at that point.
