Walk It Out, Fosse

by Carmen Van Kerckhove

Unk’s “Walk It Out” has been one of my secret guilty pleasures for some time.

(That, and Pretty Ricky’s “On the Hotline.” Any song with a chorus that goes “So Hornaaaaaaaaaaaay!” is kinda awesome in that R. Kelly 12-Play way. And the fact that none of them are remotely pretty makes it even funnier.)

But this takes the song to a whole other level. It’s a mashup of Broadway dancer Gwen Verdon doing some kicking ’60s Bob Fosse moves to “Walk it Out.” (Hat tip to Jason.)

This is Hip- Hop at it’s best when it can trasnfrom something old into something new and orginal like the Jay- Z /Beatles mash-up. Using Gwen Verdon and Fosse’s cherography for “Walk It Out” is brillant, This is the true spirit of Hip- Hop
