Re: Laws require flags to be born in USA
Let me see if I have this straight: American flags fall under international trade agreements at the national level, while states are free to erect protectionist barriers for the same goods made overseas by individuals who don’t enjoy labor or human rights protections in the process of their manufacture for people in the target market who actively voice their preference to deny those same workers the right of entry to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness under the simultaneous guise of “free market competition” *and* “homeland security”? If the biggest honor, indeed, that anyone can give the flag to have it made by American workers in the United States of America, I’ll be sure to tell all those who use its image in their cocktails and their swimsuits on the beach to not go the way of the supposed “desecrators” from China indeed. Geesh.

I’ll go one step farther and say that all those flags in the gutters and highway sides that have flipped off those flimsy plastic poles are also a desecration. As is any flag left in the rain or unlighted after dark (hello, the 150 flags plunked in the mulch of my apartment complex).
Like any “flag” law or ammendment, it usually has good intentions (usually…) , but it’s used as a distraction at best and a tool of oppression as worst. People should respect any flag because of what it stands for (if they respect what that is – that’s a free-will option, not a condition of citizenship), not because of the fabric or production aspects.
