Great podcast. So many good points. i.e. Larenz Tate being denied an Oscar bid for Menace II Society because he couldn’t have been acting, just being himself; the quote from Ice T “if you believe I am a cop killer, you believe David Bowie is an alien”; how some white people feel ’saved’ by hip-hop and feel like they have a greater understanding of the black experience because of it; that the black community is the only community that is asked to measure reality by what is happening in entertainment. I could go on and on but don’t want to spoil it for those who have not heard it yet. Again great podcast.

On a side note, I saw an interview on TVone with Stanley Crouch talking about hip-hop. He is definitiely not a fan but he did make an interesting point. He stated that mass media will continue to support commercial hip-hop (i.e. money, hoes and clothes) as it confirms to the greater white community that they are better than what they see and hear in these videos. Wonder what your panelists would think of that statement.

I find your podcast very insightful, well thought out with great discussion always. Btw, I loved the Stanley Crouch interview too, he made a great point on commerical hip-hop music.

Hip Hop has always been difficult to define and understand, because it spans so many facets of America including buisness, money, music, race, culture, everything really. And so it’s just a really really interesting phenomenon to try and find some “ultimate truth” to so I can understand the difficulty of the conversation.
