Oprah, Oprah. How much more disconnected and full of yourself can you be? This article proves Oprah gives to get back. Is that really the spirit of giving she extols through her “Life Your Best Life” mantra? She continues to generalize her work in South Africa as her work in Africa as a whole. South Africa is just one of many countries on the continent. One of the richest I might add, and the easiset for most Westerners to embrace. Development and infrastructure in the primary cities is comparable to the western world, luxury tourist attractions and ammenities abound and there is a significant white population with English as a dominant language. But I digress, back to Oprah…educating girls in South Africa will have little to no afffect on girls or life in Kenya, Swaziland or Togo. I am not saying that it shouldn’t be done, but just that its effects will not be continent-wide. Oprah tells critics of Madonna and other celebrity adopters to “stick it” yet admits that she would not bring her own 10 South African dependents to the U.S. because of her “day job.” So Madonna’s life is more suited to adopting foreign children? And she continues to demean American inner city youth by basically playing a sort of “oppression olympics” of her own comparing the lives and struggles of poor youth in America with poor youth in South Africa. I could go on and on but….. UGH!

You’re right Nina. Oprah could have spent less money elsewhere in Africa and it would have had a larger affect.
