Too hood for MySpace? Try CrackSpace!

by Carmen Van Kerckhove

From the man who brought you that masterpiece of African-American cinema, Soul Plane, comes a brand-new venture: a social networking web site called Crackspace. From EURWeb.com:

“MySpace is great but it doesn’t even come close to fully satisfying the hip-hop generation. CrackSpace was created by and for that generation. This is a place for anyone who loves the culture. We have to be very much in touch with the places where kids experience urban music and culture and really set the table for when the majority of sales are online. That’s really what this is all about.”

There’s nothing like naming your company after a drug that has ravaged communities of color all over the country and taken countless lives. Clearly this is a man who cares about our children.

(First read about this on the always-fabulous Crunk and Disorderly.)

[…] And I thought CrackSpace was bad. The latest addition to the social networking universe is NiggaSpace. Ridiculous. […]

I am OUTRAGED at this. I am sooo sick of hip hop being exploited by ignorant-ass people ( black and white and asian and all colors) to sell their clothes an shoes. But calling the place “crackspace” is a low whose immeadiate equivalent that comes to mind, is the guy who said that crime in America would go down if we “killed every Black baby in America” ( I wonder if that guy has shares in Crackspace stock??)

I’ve heard some of my students refer to myspace in this way and facebook as “crackbook” ostensibly due to their respective “addictive” qualities. I never would have thought that I would actually see a name like that codified as a business. What’s next?

    This is ridiculous.
I mean COME ON! I’m a 13 year old and even I know that there is no place a site like this in the world. RIDICULOUS.

    Sasha, think before you insult.

    Or at least proofread.

There is very much a real, working site called crackspace. As ridiculous as it may seem it is so. If you cannot find the page it is possible that its content has been blocked by the filter/firewall your parents installed.

In addition, your last sentence is barely readable. Remember to proofread before you try to insult someone over the internet. Otherwise it will always backfire.
