Okay, what’s a “black rights” group? I really need to know.

Here’s a link to Angelina Jolie with her skin darkened, hair curled, and eyes darkened with contacts:

There are a number of mixed-race actress who look like Pearl. It’s disappointing that they didn’t try to use an Afropean actress.

The confederate flag should be banned altogether, whether at nascar, or anywhere else.

And the disrespectful use of flags, team names and mascots that use native American/tribes names (Atlanta Braves, Washington Redskins, etc.), those are long overdue to be dismantled and discarded forever.

You cannot love a symbol of degradation, racism and hatred and not expect it not to have negative consequences for you.

Retire the confederate flag once and for all.

Holding on to it only proves that certain sections of the (white) South are not as forward-minded as they would like the rest of the world to believe they are.

I dropped my 2cents over at my spot on this issue. Good to see this is getting some pub in the blogworld, because I really do like the sport…

My husband is a Nascar fan (I blame his older sisters). He’s part of that minority demographic (as a PR Northerner from Jersey) that Nascar wants to attract for the future. We even have 2 tracks a few hours away (Poconos, PA and Dover, DE).

But I’ve told him that I won’t be attending a race, and I’m not sure I want our kids at one until they’re old enough to know what’s what.

The younger generation of drivers KNOW that the flag is used and abused, and a few have gone on camera at least saying SOMETHING about it (Eardhart Jr.’s quote was something along the lines of “It’s not MY flag.”), but they also know that the traditional Nascar fan is still giving them more money. It’s sheer economics that keep the organization and the drivers from getting rid of the image.

People say it’s part of their “Southern” heritage. Then explain to me why I drive past one on my way to work in Conshohocken, PA. While they’re at it, they can justify the Nazi Swastika being flown by a native of Germany… isn’t that part of their HISTORY too?
